Your Right to Choose
We
must keep in mind that freedom to make this choice was not always
available to women in our country. Since 1973, the right of a woman
to make her own reproductive choices was guaranteed and recognized
by the United States Supreme Court. Until that time, laws in many
states banned abortions and other reproductive healthcare for women.
As a result of the monumental 1973 Supreme Court case, Roe vs. Wade,
courts and lawmakers were required to permit women, with the help
of their doctors, to make these very personal reproductive decisions
for themselves. Each woman's choice became her own private, personal
decision. We, at Presidential Women's Center, are here because we
respect the right to chooseyour right to chooseand we
want you to be able to make your reproductive choices in the most
supportive and caring environment we can offer.
"We recognize the right of the individual, married or single,
to be free from unwarranted governmental intrusion into matters
so fundamentally affecting a person as the decision whether to bear
or beget a child. That right necessarily includes the right of a
woman to decide whether or not to terminate her pregnancy."
- United States Supreme Court, January 23, 1973, Roe vs. Wade.
